  1. Hello Gentlemen. My friend just the the reverse gear in his 95 auto impreza, 4wd. We pretty much think the whole thing is on its way out, and would like to replace it. Are their any reputable companies that sell the tranny and warranty the first few months to a year and maybe even the labor as well? Im located in FL if that helps at all. Thanks a lot!
  2. Ok, after a bit of searching i see this is common. I think i will take the pulley off and see if the inside is torn up/ if the key is ok. And i should probably replace them both. BUT I know i need to get the pulley, but what is this "key" part that i need to get. What is its technical name and where can i get one. Thanks!
  3. Hello all, My friend has a mid to late 90's 2dr n/a impreza. He told me he has started to hear a bumping/clunking/loose sort of thing, so i checked it out for him. With the engine running, i look in to see that the main crack pulley is wobbling like crazy. Surely that has something to do with what hes been hearing. Today, i get a call from him and he says he was driving then he lost power steering and the batt light came on so he pulled over and found that the alt belt had come OFF the main crank pulley! And this is just after i tightened them both. The a/c belt was still off...but i could see it making its way to the edge. So i re-installed both belt, made sure they were good and tight (again) and checked the main crank pulley bolt to find IT was a little loose. So i tightened that as much as possible. But i have a couple questions: It has an automatic tranny, with a manual tranny i think i remember i could stop the flywheel so i could tighten that main crank pully bolt up or leave it in gear. Should i just put it in drive to tighten it up this time or are there any other tips? Also: Why would the main pully be wobbling this much? What would cause that? What can i do about it? Does it mean something serious is wrong? And how on earth could it wobble enough to throw the belts off....thats crazy. Thank you very much for you help!
  4. I just moved accross state, and living expenses are getting the best of me. This was going to be my 2nd car, but basically i simply cant afford insurance for two cars.
  5. The ad: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41423
  6. Hey all. I just took a bunch of pics for when i make an ad to sell it with ebay or autotrader or something, but i thought you guys might like to see the pics. Wish i had this much cargo space in my car....
  7. How, with the valvecover/head line? Is that what you guys are saying is ok? Sorry...just want to be sure. Thanks!
  8. Then i f*ed up. At least i know why its running stupid now. Thanks NorthWet
  9. Hello. I was just curious about soemthing. My car doesnt have any timming belt covers. And i think there is a mark on them that you center the cam gear "dot" with when installing timming belts. What can you do if they are not there? Can you use the line where the valve cover comes in contact with the head? Thanks!
  10. I too need a picture request!! Does anyone ahve a picture of all the vacum hoses on the left/Passenger wide of the engine bay with the airbox off? I need to see where everything goes as far as cruise control, the oem boost controller looking thing, and other stuff. Just basically all the hoses that come out of the pass side of the engine, and attach to something on the pass side of the car (above the wheelwell). A close shot would be awsome, like the frame being from the fender on the left side and the middle of the engine/throttlebody on the right side as where the picture ends on the right side. Picky...arent I? moosens: Tomorrow i will see if i can run out and take a picture of what your looking for. Its too dark right now too, but ill def try tomorrow. Im *pretty* certain about all that stuff, maybe we can just compare notes, because im trying to finish an install as well.
  11. Ok i think i might of just realized why. I didnt turn the crack 360 deg after installing one timming belt, to install the other one. I just installed them at the same time. (doh) Could this be it? haha <---newb Unfortunatly the site's repair and mod section went down RIGHT in the middle of my install. Would this page apply to the EA82T?: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=39455 If so, then i did it wrong, and need to re-install one of the timming belts.
  12. Would this be the appropriate article for an EA82T as well?
  13. Hello everyone. I recently put my rx's engine back in, and still havnt worked out the little kinks yet to get it to pur like a kitten. When i go to start it up, it wont start unless i give it a good bit of throttle, and try to start it with the throttle body well open. Then when it gets running, it will kind of sputter and seem to poke along, barely running. When i rev, it wont rev very high (wont go past 3k rpm or so, even when flooring it). When i drive it (just down the driveway), it doesnt have any power, and die very easily if not. Does this sound familiar to anyone? I dont think its my ignition. I know i have fuel. Im thinking timming is off (just did a timming belt job), or a vac hose is misplaced/ vaccume leak. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
  14. Hello all. I must admit that i am pretty depressed. I just pulled the 150k motor out of my rx and rebuilt the oil pump, did a timming belt job, vavle cover gaskets, oil pan gaskets...and some other stuff. But when i put it back in, it STILL leaks oil out of one place around the drivers side headgasket that i havnt found yet. (i just saw oil buring on the exhaust pipe, got horribly upset since i just did all that work and put the engine back in, and walked away...). Anyway, so that means i had two leaks to begin with, i just couldnt see one because the timming belt covers were in the way. Anyway...the more i think about it, the less i want to put work into this 150k mile engine. After seeing the gaskets and o-rings and such that i pulled out, made me realize that they are worn and dry all over the engine, and stuff is probably just going to keep going wrong. I have however, fallen in love with my little mint RX. And i want it to have a nice...reliable engine. I think it woudl be WELL worth the 650 bucks or whatever for a nice jdm crate engine. The question is...how good are these? I mean they are still 15+ years old! Even though they have only 30-40 k miles on them or so, what about the condition of all the gaskets and all that? Has anyone used one of these? And how has it worked out? How long before stuff started going wrong with the "new" engine? Thanks!
  15. Bump Alright, i left the shield that covers the axle boot, and the shield ont he spare tire support, but other than that i left the couple other little ones out. From the looks of it, it should be ok. But if anyone else has any input, please feel free to add it.
  16. Hello all. I am reinstalling my engine, and i kind of forgot which fuel line went to where in the engine bay. At the place there are 3 metal tubes bend up for hoses to attach too. And what i have are the fuel line (comming from the obvious fuel filter) and what looks to be the return line (comming from same place in firewall, just below the fuel filter)...as well as another vacuume line or something that looks like it goes to the bottom the the brake booster area. Of the 3 metal tubes, (most forward on car, middle, and rear) the center looks to be the main supply line. Now about the other two. Is the one most forward the return line? Or is the one most rear? And which does the hose comming from under the brake booster area go to? At first i mixed them up and put the fuel supply on the most rear, the return in the center, and the other one most forward....this ended up having fuel spill out of the charcoal canister fresh air supply line at the bottom. Thanks!
  17. Thanks, from the end of the tube it didnt look like it was on anything, but i want to be sure. The Rx right now is kind of taking offers, ive had offers of 2000+ so far. Im not sure what im looking for, but im certainly in no hurry to sell it fast. Its quite a gem of a little car, being in the condition its in. I told them i would get back to them about the offers being that the engine was out of the car at the time for a bunch of seals, and a timming belt job. So im not too sure, just kind of looking for nice offers.
  18. The reason i ask is because there are really a LOT of them all stuffed down there. In my mr2 turbo i just have a downpipe with nothing like that, just ones protecting the fuel lines, but in the rx they are comming from the other side of the motor just about. The downpipe ...pipe...has a lot of heatshield stuff already on it too...like directly around the pipe.
  19. Hello. I was finishing up the reinstall of my engine today, and after i installed the charcoal canister (black cylinder front pass side corner of engine bay), i couldnt find where the tube comming out of the bottom goes to. Does it go anywhere or is it just for fresh air? (I think there is only one comming out of the bottom) Thanks!!!!
  20. Hello all. I was just wondering if it was ok to leave out the little exhaust shields that go arond the downpipe and turbo on my RX? How many of you left those off a while ago, and how is your car doing? Did it get too hot for anything in that area? ...Im only talking about the ones around the exhaust stuff. The heatshild that is part of the spare tire support beam will stay however.
  21. Wait...WHAT!?!?! After what i did i had each cam gear's dot pointing up. Along with the 3 lines... So that would be two dots up (one per head/cam gear) !?!? ???
  22. Oh yes, i did not touch a thing when i made the marks other than take off the belt covers. The marks were made with the belt having full/normal tension on them. After i made the marks, i then removed the tensioners/belts...marked the new belts, and installed the new ones with marks on them.
  23. Hello all, i just changed my timming belts yesterday, and i wanted to share something i did, and see if anyone else has done anything like that. Other timming belt jobs ive done on DOCH i4's were kind of tedious with having to line everything up, with super tight tensioners, grenade pins and so fourth.... So with my ea82T i did something i thought was simple, and kind of obvious. All i did was take a metalic silver sharpie, and mark the old timming belts and cam and crank pullies/gears. For example i would draw a line on a gear tooth, then a matching line on the belt space that the tooth goes it. I then took the belts off, and carefully (carefully) lined matched up tooth by tooth the old timing belt with the new one, and drew replica lines. I checked my work like 10 times, took the belt back over to the engine and just matched up the new belt with new lines and the sharpie lines on the gears and installed the tensioners and whatnot making sure the lines/teeth stayed in their spot. All said and done i checked to make sure it all matched up. (Three marks on top of flywheel pointing straight up as the cam gear holes/top-points were pointing straight up as well. Rotaded the crank a few times, to make sure they stayed that way. So anyway, thats what i did. Overall it took like 15-20 min, and was 10 times less stressfull than other engines ive done trying to keep everything matched up/pointing up and trying to install the belt like that. What do you guys think? Just a diff tecnique i thought i would share. Thanks!
