  1. Thanks guys. Yeah i didnt think it was much. I couldnt even get it to register on my torque wrench, so i ended up being safe and just using a screwdriver to tighten them, with that i could get them as snug/tight as possible but the gasket did not squish out at all, so that works for me! Thanks again!
  2. Hey guys, im installing a new oil pan gasket. I just cleaned out the pan, cleaned off the contact surface real well, put a small amount of FIPG and the new gasket on. When i was bolting it back on, i realized that i need to know what to tq it too, since if i go to much its just going to split and push out the new gasket. So...what would be a good number to do this too? Even tightening them a little bit i can see the gasket push out just a hair, and i really dont want that to happen. What do you guys usually do? Thanks!
  3. Hey guys, i am thinking about using my RX as a daily driver for school and such for the next year or two. I was thinking about swapping in a newer engine that has a *tiny* bit more power, but basically is just newer and not turbo. My turbo EA82T is fine right now (but 150k miles), but naturally aspirated engines are just a whole lot easier to maintain and such. Is there anything out there that would be a direct/easy swap? What about the newer 2.5 n/a engines, like mid-late 90's or so? And what all would it involve? Is there any chance the same tranny could be used? And obviouly it would take a lot oof wiring... Let me know what you guys think. I really have a gem of an rx, in AWSOME shape, and it would be a sweet little daily driver for a while. Thanks!!!
  4. Whoo well that was fun. Oil pump seals, valve cover, timming belts, oil pan gasket all done now. Just have to get it all back in. One note though: Whatever manufacturer that made my gaskets did a pretty bad job of it. My micky mouse gasket and valve cover gaskets did not match up pretty well. The bends would be off just by a little bit, but enough for a noticable diff.
  5. Alright, just finsihed it up. I replaced the MM, shaft seal, and a large o-ring. But i have this left over that i couldnt find a place for: http://oem.thepartsbin.com/parts/thepartsbin/quote2.jsp?product=80691-4020&action=search&cart=&partnerSession=&usemake=&returnurl=www.thepartsbin.com&Submit=Search Its a smaller o-ring, maybe the size of a nickle or so. Anyone know where this would have gone?
  6. Wow, i brushed away some of the crud, and found another bolt that i couldnt even see before. It was comepletely covered! So now that its out, there are just two seals right, shaft and micky mouse? Thanks
  7. Hey guys, right now i have the engine out, timing betls off, and im ready to take out the oil pump. But there is so much crap all over the bottom of it from dirt sticking to it due to an oil leak that i can see anything. What all must be done to take it out? I have removed the 4 obvious 10mm bolts, what else is there? Thanks!
  8. Update: I got the pass side nut off. lol The drivers side nut is from hell. And is possesed. I have been pretty lazy about working on this thing, i havnt touched it in like a week or two today i just went out and removed the ps pump (i did have to take the pully off though to remove it from the bracket). I just ran head on into the pass side lower tranny housing bolt, shreaking with my warcry, i was able to break it lose. The other side i cant get a good angle at, and its starting to strip it. I need to go get a better 14mm wrench and maybe a better sized socket, or just take the axle off (which ill probably have to do). Haha, can you believe all this effort/trouble/time over a couple nuts?...rediculous...
  9. Subaru - 1 Me - 0 Well, i couldnt do it today. After an hour of trying to get those bolts to budge i gave up. I didnt have one combination of tools that worked. I dont know how on earth they are on there so tight, but they just wont budge. I cant get a good socket on their either because the axle is in the way. I think im just going to have to take the axles out, i know the clutch has been changed before..so maybe they re-tourqed those bolts to 1 gazillion lbs/sq ft. Also with the ps pump..i got the bolts out, but the pump wont slide out? THe pully is still on it, and it seems like something is getting in the way. Shoudl it just slide right out through the top? Thank again for the help, sorry i am such a newb when it comes to this engine, but its my first time working on a ea82t.
  10. Thanks for you help everyone. I just bought like 100+ dollars worth of seals that i want to do. Also timing belts, and so fourth. Basically a nice tune-up and stuff for preventative maintanence. Plus i do like this sort of this, its good experiance. And its just eaiser to do all the work im doing with the engine out of the car. Welp, im going to go give it another shot. Again, thank you al very much for the help. **makes a run for the pb-blaster**
  11. Thanks for the help guys. Im glad to hear there are only 2 motor mount bolts, i was beginning to lose my mind. About the ps pump, how did you guys go about getting the pully off? That thing seems to be on there very tight. Graaaaaaaahhhhhhhh Those two lower tranny bell-housing bolts are OWNING me. Whoever did this last must had welded them on or something. They wont budge!!! What woudl be the easiest way to pull the axles? Thanks!
  12. Hey guys, how everyone sunday treating ya? Well right now im in the process of taking my RX motor out. I have everything disconnected and all thats left is the tranny disconnect and the motor mounts basically. But i ahve a few questions. 1) I found the 2 obvious motor mount bolts, but arnt there 2 others? I unbolted the two that are easilys seen in the crossmember, but where are the other 2? 2) How on earth do you guys get to the lower 2 tranny bolts that hold it togeather without dropping the crossmember? 3) What did you guys do about the PS pump? My first thoughts are to disc the whole thing and lay it off to the side, but can i just disc the lines and refill it later? Or will that mess it up/get air in the lines? 4) Stupid newb subi question BUT, where is the other location to attach the engine hoist chain??? I have the one next to the alt, but where is the other? Where do i attach the other chain comming off the engine balancer? Thanks!!!
  13. Thats awsome man! Congrats! Nice green light too
  14. Thank you, that really cleared the tranny part of it up for me. Everything else looks good!
  15. Alright im making the order right now, i would like to replace the alt/ac/ps belts too. But im a little confused on what to buy due to this site. Here is the page im looking at, which shoudl i get? My car has a/c and powersteering. Thanks! http://oem.thepartsbin.com/parts/thepartsbin/wizard.jsp?year=1988&make=SU&model=LOY-4WDT-001&category=All&part=V-+Belt Also, it seems there are a ton of diff water pumps to get. Looking at the one in the car right now, i dont know if i need to replace mine, it seems the one in there is pretty new, and was done by the previous owner. Its a "GMB" unit, that looks pretty clean. Since its GMB does that mean that it was definetly done, if subaru didnt use that as an oem piece? I just dont know if i shoudl get that or not... It looks just like this: http://oem.thepartsbin.com/parts/thepartsbin/viewImage.jsp?image=img.thepartsbin.com/live/G300038690GMB.JPG http://oem.thepartsbin.com/parts/thepartsbin/quote.jsp?make=SU&year=1988&product=G3000-38690&application=000167862&part=Water%20Pump&category=All Thanks for the help!
  16. So are you saying 4 bolts for the engine mounts...4 bolts for the tranny? Yeah, im just waiting to pick up the engine lift from my buddy. Conderser is staying...as is the compressor, and ps pump. Now about pulling the tranny off, when i take the engine out of my other car i leave the tranny attached...with this subaru, ill just unbolt the tranny, then seperate it. And the engine shoudl pull out from in it (well the clutch being in it and whatever.? Like the drive-(enter proper term here) that goes into the clutch will just slide out right? Other than that im pretty much set! I cant wait to get this thing in nice order.
  17. Great, thanks ill do just that. By the way, this is a EA82T in my RX.
  18. Hmm, alright. I guess im almost ready then. All i have to do now is just unbolt the tranny, motor mounts, and disconnect the power steering stuff, everything else is done. Now about the powersteering...when i disc the lines, all the fluid will of course pour out. When i reconnect them..is there some sort of beeding technique i must do before i drive the car? Or do i just fill it back up with ps fluid, and im good to go. (my previous cars did not have ps) Thanks!
  19. Im about to pull my ea82t out of my RX. Shoudl the tranny stay with it, or what? I woudl like to make it as easiest as possible Can i just disconnect the driveshaft? (I havnt taken a close look underthere yet)
  20. Dude! Thanks for that link, ill buy from there. I love how they giv eme a picture too, always makes me feel better about what im buying.
  21. I thought that was the oil pump seal?!? Whats the name of that gasket then?
  22. Hmm...yeah i guess ill do the valvecovers too, cant be too expensive. Ill fill out my profile now, but i am in southwest florida. (fort myers) Thanks for the help!
  23. Hello all. I will be pulling the ea82t out of my RX soon, and i would like to replace a good number of the seals and all belts. I do not wish to replace any of the pumps (oil/water) at this point due to money, so only rubber and seals. So far this is my list: -Oil Pump Seal -Timming Belts -Alt/PS/Ac belts -Oil pan gasket Is there anything else that i shoudl consider? I dont want it to be anything to hard or involved like the main crank seal or anything. I just want to do a simple reseal of a few things. So anything else that is easy enough to say "meh...might as well" while im down there? Also, where can i get these parts? Is there an online store? I know for my toyota i have a dealer website that i get parts at-cost. Is there anything like that for these? Thanks!
