Hi , I have a 1996 Impreza . I want to know is there a gasket or ring that goes where the speed om cable goes . I have a fluid there . can I replace it or what do I do ? I can work on the old car motors like the fords or chevys . but I know nothing about these cars . this is my first Surbaru . Please I need help

You probably already know this, but be sure to trace the fluid to its highest point, to find the source. I am assuming you mean where the cable enters the transmission?

there shouldnt be any fluid there...i agree with midwst

yes thats what i mean . how do i fix it ? i'm afraid to work on it myself not know what i'm getting in to . but i will try it . so is it a gasket or a little ring ? and could you tell me where theres a dealer hear in tenn , i'm in a small town south of knoxville . please help. i need it

Is it an auto or manual?

 

The auto tranny has a base piece that does have a rubber gasket included with it.
