July 19, 200520 yr Can anyone tell me if a flywheel off an 84 gl is the same as a flywheel on my 83 dl. They are both EA81 engines. I am getting ready to do a clutch job and it would help if I could take the flywheel off the engine sitting in the shop and have it surfaced, but I want to make sure it will fit my engine. :-\

July 19, 200520 yr Somewheres in that time period there were 2 different flywheels... they accepted different sized clutch disks (8" vs 8-7/8ths???).
July 20, 200520 yr Author Yes, that is what I just found out. My spare EA81 came off an 84 GL 4WD and I wanted to use that flywheel on my EA81 DL FWD, which I drive every day. I got a clutch kit today and it is the smaller one, a little less than 8 inches. Can I swap these and put the bigger clutch in my car? I was planning to have the 84 GL flywheel resurfaced in the morning. (Should it be balanced?) This is pretty new stuff for me so I have some pretty basic questions. Somewheres in that time period there were 2 different flywheels... they accepted different sized clutch disks (8" vs 8-7/8ths???).
July 20, 200520 yr No, they also have a different spline count, read your post on clutch plate for more detailed explanation. Pete.
