91 octane for WRX a must?

Featured Replies

Just bought an '02 wrx and am wondering if using 89 rather than 91 octane gas is ok. Will it hurt my engine? I have filled up twice with 89 and am not experiencing any "pinging" or other engine noise......any suggestions?

Also, has anyone else experienced squeaky windows? Squeaky seatbelts?

Otherwise, i am loving my new machine. Thanks! :D

For peace of mind and straight con-rods, stick with 91.

89 is risk, and the damgage could cost far more than what you might save at the pumps.

Hmmm... guess i wont be buying one of those, being that were on the verge of $3.00 a gallon.

1.50 a liter over here :-(

Yeah, I bet that sucks. Americans are gonna have to learn to deal with it. Not that huge SUVs help much.

is peace of mind not worth $.10 per gallon to you? You bought a car worth approximately $17000, yet you're already willing to sacrifice the thing that makes the car special because you don't want to spend less than the cost of a large slurpee every fill-up to maintain it correctly?

i would think that so long as you granny drive it and stay out of the boost, 89 wouldnt hurt anything. of course, elevation has a big part in it as well.....
