crankshaft bolt torque specs?

Featured Replies

The factory service manual and all aftermarket manuals say 76 ft lbs for the crankshaft pulley bolt on a 2.2L Legacy. That doesn't sound like enough. Is that right?

My manuals also give the same value as your FSM. I would be very cautious about torquing it to 165% of the FSMs value.

Would like to know what people use at the dealership. Someone said 103 ft lbs on the 1.8L engines. That the factory manual specs were too low.

The book specs 130 ft/lbs. for the phase II 2.5.

I tightened the bolt on my '00 phase II 2.2. to that exact 130 ft./lbs. spec with no ill effects thusfar. The crank bolt is the same as my 2.5. I'm not sure about the earlier 2.2 tho.

Subjectively, 130 didn't seem "feel" overly tight ...it's a large, long bolt. (The subjective thing is important to me as it's kept me from breaking and stripping fasteners for many years of working - sans torque wrench).

even lug nuts are tighten more than 76 ft lbs...unless its a geo metro. Like the 125 idea.
