ok im putting a ej20t motor in my DL now what tranny do i need

Depends on how much money you want to spend, what you are using it for, and what you want.

 

BTW.. there is no such thing as an EJ20T;)

i could have sworn i just read abut a jdm ej20t motor but ok

 

a 5 speed that will match up pretty easy to an ej motor and still fit in tje 88 dl

the EJ 5 speed will bolt up easiest to the engine, but the tranny cross member will need to be modified, as well as the inner cups for the front axles, you could run an old 5spd, but i'd worry about the power it could handle. you would need to get the adapter plate from mudrat if you did that though.
