Backing plates replacement help!!

Featured Replies

My backing plates are completely rusted and need to be replaced. I don't know much about mechanics but do construction. Is there anything special I should know about replacing front and rear backing plates or is it a unscrew and replace type of thing that I can do with regular (non-specialized) equipment? Any help would be great!!! Please.

I have an Impreza Outback Sports 1997. Mechanics in the area offered close to $2,000 to do it. I just can't afford that.

backing plates- those behind the rotors???

when i went for inspection the guy told me to replace those on rear end, i couldnt get those and a dealership gave me a price of 200$:-\. the thing that was "rusted out" was a kind of sheild, to "protect" the rotor.

the back plate looked good,so i just took a big screwdriver and got rid of the rusted part.so check out if it's the plate rusted or just the litlle thing around the rotor.

take care
