90 Loyale Turbo Camshaft Seal not as seen in Haynes Manual Help!

Featured Replies

I just pulled of the Camshaft Seal Retainer- Two Bolts. I am supposed to be able to pull out the old seal and put a new one in. The only problem is that there really isnt an old one to speak off. There was at one point because the spring was in there and such. Unfortunatly there is no way to put a new one in. There is a little metal plate where the Seal Should be. The plate has this green looking gunk around the outside edge. Clearly this is not something Haynes has seen becasue there was no note about this and there is nothing in the picture. Does anyone know if there was a difference in Camshaft Seals for the 90 Loyale Turbo and the rest of the EA82 Engines? Thanks

can you post a picture?

the seals do have a metal ring as the very outer *face* of the seal, but it's covered by rubber. are you sure you're not seeing this metal face of the seal?

That is possible, considering there was nothing left of the seal. I took sone needle nose and pull the metal ring out with great hassle. I then put in the new seal. It worked fine. Unfortunatly, I broke the Cam Seal Retainer, when I put it back in. The O-Ring I used was to thick and I torqued it down to hard on the to big O-ring. Resusting in breakage. I wonder what the proper size O-ring is? Thanks
