Hill holder....is it consistant usually?

Featured Replies

My hill holder is irratic.....I did my best to adjust it but it works sometimes and to varying degrees. Is this normal? It's an 84 GL Wagon if that matters.

Make sure you have plenty of brake fluid in the system.

Mine works 100% of the time.

Also remember you have to be on a hill... and the steeper the hill the better. If the hill is near flat, the holder wont hold.

No mine is just plain inconsistant, sometimes on steep hills nothing, and sometimes on barely-hill-at-all-hills, perfect e-brake effect. What do I need to lube to make it not stick or is it that simple?

If you can get hold of any of the manuals, they have pictures and troubleshooting for adjustment. There is a Subaru-specific shim that changes the angle at which it operates-- could it be a bit loose? I don't know. Clutch adjustment has to be right before adjusting the hill holder, I read.

But for erratic, I'd guess replace the valve.

The valve, according to all I've found, is not serviceable but simple to replace.
