puttputt Posted August 14, 2005 Share Posted August 14, 2005 I have a 1987 GL 1.8 OHC w/TBI and CAS ignition. Two weeks ago, it started dying suddenly - cold or hot - in town or hiway, no specific pattern. A successful re-start can take 45 seconds, or as long as 5-10 minutes - very unpredictable. What's interesting is that when the engine dies, the tach also dies. The problem is also becoming more frequent, dying 2 or 3 times in less than 5 miles. A friend pulled codes 11-13-14-24-33-34. Of those, code 11 says "crank angle sensor/circuit" and code 13 just says ""crank angle sensor". What's the differences between these nearly identical codes? Wanting to be sure about the correct fix, I have a couple of questions: 1. Armed with a DMM (digital multimeter), how can I verify the CAS is defective? 2. IF the CAS is bad, what other years, models are *possibily* interchangable? I ask, because locating a 1987 crank angle sensor, has been unsuccessful so far. hooziewhatsit Posted August 14, 2005 Share Posted August 14, 2005 go here, and download the EA82 service manuals. http://www.finleyweb.net/default.asp?id=142 on page 34 of part2, it says code 11 is CAS (no reference pulse) and code 13 is CAS (No position pulse) From that point on in the manual, it has many guides to getting the codes, and most importantly, troubleshooting guides to find a problem with the ignition control system (page 53 of the PDF).
