August 17, 200520 yr To all those who would venture an opinion, I think I have a leak from the driveshaft end of the transaxle (2nd Gen Brat, EA81 manual trans/ 4WD). My question is simply, is this an easy fix? Can I drop the driveshaft and get at the bad seal to replace it or will it require any special tools, tricks or new Four Letter Words? Thanks, Brian

Thanks, Brian yes, you should be able to get it out after removing the driveshaft.
November 30, 201312 yr and how is that done? exactly? I don't see snap rings on the outside of my u joints? ... unbolt rear drive shaft at the rear dif. slide the slip yoke out. if you just need to replace the seal, no need to drop the exhaust. Edited November 30, 201312 yr by filthytactics
November 30, 201312 yr to clarify, you mean the rear driveshaft and not the CV shafts right? "driveshaft" is often used for both.
November 30, 201312 yr As filthy said... Unbolt the driveshaft at the rear diff, then slide the driveshaft off the slip yoke. The seal is right there. Might want to grab a drip pan. You will probably loose a bit of fluid.
