RE: adjustable struts, 87 GL wagon

Featured Replies

1. Does this year GL have them?

2. If yes, how do I tell if MY car has them?

3. If yes, how do I tell if they are adjusted up?

4. If no, how do I adjust them?

Point of information: the car has about 10" ground clearance in rear, 9" in front (measured to the frame rail).

Which adjustable struts do you mean, the manual ones or the air ones?

And do you have a hatch or an EA82?

Air shocks have a button on the dash, if it's depressed, the car is in the "up" position.

Manual shocks have access covers under the rear seat and a place to put a wrench or something to jack the car up manually. I'm not sure which years/models had that feature. The owner manual should have details.

The manual adjustable ones that wagonsonly is referring to is EA81 only. For EA 82, as far as I know, only 85 and 86 had adjustable struts/shocks.. fronts had two nuts, one on either side of the strut, rears had a ratcheting adjustment

the 89 t-wagn had ratchet adjustable rears, but it was a swap from air suspension, so they may have been taken from an earlier car. My 88 gl has no adjustment. The ea81s have the adjusters under the rear seat to rotate the torsion bars up and down

Only the '85-'86 GL (loyale series) had the adjustable manual suspension. And the under seat thing is only pre-loyale series. Your car should not have them... but who knows if someone could have swapped in an older strut. :)
