Questions about ecu...engine type

Featured Replies

Hello all,

Here comes another round of "why and the heck would anyone know that" questions from yours truly

1. I have heard speculation that a ecu from a 97 2.2l impreza would work on any pre 2000 2.5 litre...true or false

2. If i put a post 2000 SOHC 2.5 i know i would need an ECU but...isnt that a drive by wire setup??? could i swap in the cable t-body??? what are my options here...or just get a new pedal set??

Cory

Pretty sure the 2000 is still cable actuated throttle.

Bottom line is other ECU's will "somewhat" run other engines. The differences in electronics are mainly in the sensors, specifically the MAF sensor, the type of IAC (ie throttle body mounted or intake manifold mounted), and possibly TPS.

If the MAF sensors are the same between your car and the car you're taking the motor from, you should be good to use your MAF. Same goes for the other sensors.

Going from a 2.2 to a 2.5 will probably have different timing and other stuff, but it's doable. Anything is doable, it's how much time and/or money you have to put into it. Unfortunately, I don't have a simple yes or no answer for you. Have you checked out the conversions forum on nasioc?

well, i know for a fact that you can run a 2.5 on a 1.8 ecu, my buddy did it for awhile on his rally car, at least until the turbo came..... so i dont see why you cant run a 2.5 on a 2.2 ecu? you might need to change a few wires or maybe add some, but i doubt it.......
