I have a 93 Loyale 4x4. How can i tell the 4x4 is working. I hit the button and the indicator light comes on but its dry out and I cant tell if its engaged. any ideas short of driving it through the woods or something?

first of all DO NOT ENGAGE 4WD ON DRY PAVEMENT!!!

Do it in the dirt, mud, ice or snow. You want to make sure each wheel has at least 10% slip. If you do not, you will bind the transmission and may cause some problems later down the road.

In order to test it, find some dirt. Peel out in FWD. Then hit the button. Peel out in 4WD. You should tell a difference.

Oh, I forgot these are Subarus. Ya, don't engage the 4wd on pavement. :-\
