September 1, 200520 yr I've noticed the back end of my wagon sags a lot when I keep 200lb rotary engines in the back of it to cart around to assorted places. One option would be to not haul heavy stuff, but then what's the point? Are there stiffer aftermarket cargo springs, or something along those lines (air bags?) that could be installed to help keep the rear up with load? -=Russ=-
September 1, 200520 yr IIRC late 80's honda acord front springs will work on the rear of your car to give the butt a little lift, if its an ea82
September 1, 200520 yr Yes, if it's an EA82, you can use the front springs from an 86-89 Accord. They fit right onto the EA82 rear shocks and will lift the rear about 2 inches.
September 1, 200520 yr Author Sweet. I called around, $70 will get me a set of springs from an Accord with A/C & an automatic transmission (the stiffest set available). Are there any major problems with fuel economy from jacking the rear? Also, will the struts take the additional load without issues, or should I replace them while I'm at it? -=Russ=-
September 1, 200520 yr I'd go for some softer ones. I had the stiffest ones available on my wagon and they just about knocked my fillings out. I figured you could do better than $70... I got mine for $20.
September 2, 200520 yr I've been running my factory struts (190k on them) with honda springs for almost a year now with no problems. The damping seems adequate, but they are HEAVY springs so it will ride more like a truck.
September 2, 200520 yr Author Hrm. Truck-like riding while empty is *not* a desirable trait. It's my luxury car. Or something. I think I may just stick to trying to leave the random engines out as much as possible. -=Russ=-
