September 2, 200520 yr Does any one know what year the limited slip rear differential became available on the Legacy? And is it possible to get one on a car that has the 2.2L engine? If not, any suggestions on getting one installed later if I buy a used '98 or '99 Legacy? I'll probably need it this winter in northern Ontario. Thanks for the help.
September 2, 200520 yr i believe that the some of the turbo legacy's had a lsd rear end... also if you cant find an older style turbo it might have a clutch type in it, you would have to switch gears around, but it would work better........
September 2, 200520 yr IMHO a set of good snow tires may be more reliable and less of a headache than messing around with the drivetrain. Just a suggestion Steve
September 3, 200520 yr As far as I know, my Legacy does not have an LSD, but it still kicks butt in the snow. Last year, I routinely drove in moderate to heavy snows (6 to 10 inches unplowed) with no problems. In fact, I could accelerate, stop, and corner almost as well as during the summer. Well, maybe not quite, but almost. I felt safe driving 50mph on roads covered with 6 inches of snow at about 20 degrees F. Get dedicated winter tires, and you will be all set. Get ready to laugh at the "Tough Guys" in the SUV's that skid off the road!! Matt

If I remember correctly, they only came on the 91 Legacy Turbo with manul trannies, but recent Matt found one in an auto trannied Leg Turbo. I'm really surprized that a LSD is not stock on a WRX.
