September 4, 200520 yr Hello guys (and gals) I just picked up a 2001 Legacy sedan. It is an Outback Limited! Very nice car! Anyway, I would like to check the auto tranny fluid but can't find the dipstick??? Is there a way to check the fluid level or ???? did I miss it somewhere??? ..... I am the dipstick here ? tapper
September 4, 200520 yr it is pretty tough to find on a forester, i would guess yours is in the same spot. on the drivers side, look behind the motor, and deep down by the tranny.there is a yellow dipstick right there. you`re no dipstick, its just hard to see.
September 4, 200520 yr We have a plain old regular 01 Outback Wagon, not the limited... It's on the driver's side, toward the back of the motor and it's a yellow dipstick (??) and once you see it you'll never miss it again... DIPSTIICK... Hate to quote "Roscoe P. Coltrane" there... But couldn't resist... Good Luck !!!
September 4, 200520 yr 158k on a 2001? Someone did a lot of driving.. You'll probably also want to check the front diff oil. Dipstick is on the passenger side, right under the airbox. It's a yellow handle too. Oh yea, and you have to fill the oil and ATF via the dipstick holes... better get a long skinny funnel.
September 6, 200520 yr Author Yaa, the previous owner did some serious miles.....40k a year. Got to beleive him when he says highway miles! I just sold a 92 SVX and a 89 XT6, both had less than my new(er) 2001, they had 151k and 119k. I'll check the diff fluid as well, thanks. 158k on a 2001? Someone did a lot of driving..
