tappermanor
Hello guys (and gals) I just picked up a 2001 Legacy sedan. It is an Outback Limited! Very nice car! Anyway, I would like to check the auto tranny fluid but can't find the dipstick??? Is there a way to check the fluid level or ???? did I miss it somewhere??? ..... I am the dipstick here ? tapper
75subie
it is pretty tough to find on a forester, i would guess yours is in the same spot. on the drivers side, look behind the motor, and deep down by the tranny.there is a yellow dipstick right there. you`re no dipstick, its just hard to see. unverviking
We have a plain old regular 01 Outback Wagon, not the limited... It's on the driver's side, toward the back of the motor and it's a yellow dipstick (??) and once you see it you'll never miss it again... DIPSTIICK... Hate to quote "Roscoe P. Coltrane" there... But couldn't resist... Good Luck !!!

nickb21
158k on a 2001? Someone did a lot of driving.. You'll probably also want to check the front diff oil. Dipstick is on the passenger side, right under the airbox. It's a yellow handle too. Oh yea, and you have to fill the oil and ATF via the dipstick holes... better get a long skinny funnel. tappermanor
Yaa, the previous owner did some serious miles.....40k a year. Got to beleive him when he says highway miles! I just sold a 92 SVX and a 89 XT6, both had less than my new(er) 2001, they had 151k and 119k. I'll check the diff fluid as well, thanks. 158k on a 2001? Someone did a lot of driving..
