ABS for Older Soobs?

Featured Replies

Does anyone know of a company that markets a generic ABS system to retrofit onto cars that don't have ABS?

If so, has anyone tried this out and what were your results?

Never heard of any type of system. Dont know how safe it would be, you would be altering your brake system which might be more dangerous than just having standard brakes.

You'd need to impliment sensors and install computers and such that would be pretty involved.

Would be prohibitively expensive if it existed. If you want ABS it will probably have to be all custom. Pump, computer, sensors in front knuckles and rear something, sensor pick-ups (notches) on axles, etc.

I could be wrong about everything though. Maybe extensive swapping/modification of newer-generations parts could do it.

Probably wouldn't be terribly difficult for a competent machinist to retrofit Ford RABS into a Soob. It consists of toothed ring and an electronic pickup that sends position data to a small computer, external to the ECM, that controls a small check valve (?). The hard part would be getting the ring installed in the rear diff and adding provisions in the case for the pickup. After that...no problem at all.
