I got my car all back together and it seems to be doing ok, I.E. not blowing smoke. not mixing oil with water... but I am still overheating... possible turbo?... or bad radiator? I don't know what to do.. (just water in RAD as coolant is spendy and I don't want to waste it if something is bad... what happens is it will be fine for a while and then under stress it seems to evaporate water, as no White smoke. no milkshake,,,, I don't get it...) someone anyone got any IDEAS? I was going to take it to bryans Subaru repair but don't have the cash... also I can't get it to Idle Right for the life of me... sometimes it will idle at 800 sometims 500 others 1200 I don't understand it...Idle air control valve? I heard that somewere?

If you have to keep putting water in, your losing it somewhere. You mentioned white smoke, and water in the oil, hmm. If your still seeing this, you might have cracked heads.

If your overheating, and not losing coolant, a new thermostat is a good place to start.

i know you just did head gaskets, did you check the heads for flatness? did you do both gaskets or just one? maybe you still have some air stuck in the system somewhere? what came first: the overheat or the bad head gaskets? maybe you had an overheat prob first and that caused the HG's?

just a few ideas, hope they help.
