Headrests in 2006 models

Featured Replies

We love our 92 and 93 Legacy wagons, and were planning to replace them with 2006 Subarus - but the headrest design has changed, making them terribly uncomfortable. Has anyone else had a problem with this?

Ermm, no. But I don't rest my head on the head rest while I am moving.

The new headrest are "anti-whiplash" by the way. They scoot forward and support your head in the event of an accident.

And therin is the problem; we don't either in the 92 and 93. When either of us (6'2 and 5'8) sit in our normal posture, the new headrest pushes our heads forward.

Oh dear!

I am 6'5" and don't have that problem. But even so. I miss that adjustment wheel that my 1992 Legacy had on the side of the headrest.

The complaint can't be the WRXes as they have racing style seats now. maybe the Legacys? I would ask the the dealership - I certainly can't imagine that being correct - they'd have a LOT of complaints. perhaps the 'dope-slap' (anti-whiplash) mechanism has been triggered in the one you drove? Are the rests removable and just placed in backwards?

I dunno

That could well be. Peter says he only tried one 2006 the day he was looking.

Last year we were looking at 2005's, and I had a similar problem (he didn't) in the Legacy. We did try reversing the headrest, switching out the backseat headrest. Great minds must think alike.

If we can't resolve this, any suggestions for Subaru-handling alternatives?
