Fuel pump is pumping when key turned to ACC?

Recommended Posts

Hey, I've got a 1985 gl-10 and a problem... Any time I turn the key to ACC, it sounds like the fuel pump is pumping for some reason. It'll pump for a second or two, then stop for a second, then pump again. And it won't stop until I turn the key off or start the engine. My question is, what could have caused this? It didn't start until a little while ago when I was trying to hook up fog lights to the car - I was under the dash and plugged in a few plugs that were unplugged. After looking in the repair manual, I found out they are "clear memory" harnesses or something along those lines. Any help at all, suggestions, or questions would be really really greatly appreciated. I replaced the alternator less than a week ago, and I really don't want more problems.

You might want to unplug the connectors until it stops making the noise. It sounds like you got the connectors that are used to check the trouble codes plugged into each other. I'm not sure what color the connectors are as you have an 85(which I'm not too familiar with) and I have an 88. Whenever they are plugged in, it causes the fuel pump to pulse. And if I remember right, someone told me that it isn't good to drive around with them plugged in. Hope this helps.
