October 15, 200520 yr ok, Freebiemobile now has a new filter and oil, and I've got a can of gas ready for when I get the engine lubricated enough to fire. New problem: I obtained a new battery, which makes contact and I get continuity through the system (move the key to ON and get all the warning lights, the fan blower, plus the whir of... well, whatever it is that whirs before the starter motor engages). The ignition tumbler has a hard time getting to the "start" position (seen this before, think I can fix it with an old Chevy ig switch). As soon as I turn the switch to "start", the starter motor kicks once, then the entire electrical system goes dead until I exit the car, disconnect both battery cables, then reconnect them both. Turn off all accessories, same thing. Ideas?

October 15, 200520 yr remove all the cables clean and reinstall. Hot wire to the starter using a jumper cable and makesure the starter is good nippper
October 15, 200520 yr you can get replacement battery connectors at ANY auto parts store - maybe even Wal/K mart - you cut the old ones off, strip the wires ... you can figure out the rest - they come with instructions and are easy to install - had to do that to a friend's Mazda RX-7 recently - they're at least 11 years old, they've had a good life could also be a battery low on charge, however this is less likely
