try again..96 legacy CV axle replacement ?

Featured Replies

My post from a few days ago disappeared off the board....?I am very familiar with the Loyale CV axle replacement...wondering how different the 96 Legcy job will be....do they still have the pin holding it to the transmission stub? Do you still loosen the ball joint to swing the strut tower out....and whats with the axle nut?...it has that spot bend over to prevent it from loosening...how am I supposed to straighten that in order to get the nut off????

thanks

As is my understanding, it's very similar to the Loyale (I've done the axle on my old GL, and now I have to replace the wheel bearing on my '98 Legacy).

The axle nut has a little bit bent in... I was told to just loosen the nut like normal, it'll automatically push that tab out. If that doesnt work, I'm sure you can bend it out with a small screwdriver or something.

If you have access to an impact gun, just gun the axle nut off and the tab will open. Remove another bolt that faces toward the front of the car, pull the leg off the axle, push the pin out and you're free. Just completed this on my OBW. Quick fix. Don't mess with the steering or you'll have to realign it.
