Hi y'all. Well here goes my ongoing story of my po' lil' subaru.

I have an 83 EA81 GL Sta. Wag. Ran rough for awhile and finally stopped altogether. Short version is I bought a remanufactured distributor. Figured either the pick-up coil or the ignitor was bad. Installed the dist. Car ran fine for about 3-4 days. Only thing I noticed was a very intermittent hiccup. Thought maybe I had fuel/fuel line problems. Well today it just died. And after much swearing and checking of possible fuel problem, I thought to check the trouble code from the ECM. I had cleared it and when it ran good, no code came up. But today I got the same code as before. 22. "Ignition pulse system". So, I'm guessing one of two things happened. Either the remanufactured distributor wasn't good. But when it ran, it ran fine. Or, something??? fried the pick-up coil or ignitor. Any ideas what could cause failure to coil/ignitor. Only normal two wires come from distributor to main coil. One to positivie side, one to negative. I thought I had checked the coil before. Had 12 volts to pos. side. Even changed to new coil (before replacing disty) and that made no difference. Anyway.

Could I have received faulty remanufactured disty.

Or could something/coil/? have made new pick-up coil/ignitor go bad? If so, what?

I'm also leaning towards trying to put new/different type distributor in. Ant ideas on trying plain ol' points. Do away with electronic crap altogether.

Thanks for any ideas:)

Have you tried changing the ignition coil? Fairly cheap fix..

Edit... Never mind.. I see you did..

Let me think about that one a bit...
