Got a problem here.... different axels - diffs & LSD

Featured Replies

Hey Guys,

Since I have an LSD Diff from an RX and I want to put it in my Legacy instead having open diff, anyway I am pretty sure someone here can help me to answer this...

Look at this picture below -

The problem I have is, I have male - male axels and the diff is female instert into the diff, and the LSD Diff has male shafts (opposite to the one I have on my Legacy) and I can't use the drive shafts because of different connections.

Theory: If i got the rear hub from early legacy that has male splines/shafts on it ready for female drive shafts then the diff is no problem to be installed? Or is it possible to change the inside diff for male drive shafts on the LSD?

Cheers

AP

On the VLSD diffs, the stubs I don't think can be changed.

I guess I'm confused as to why you don't just use the appropriate axles which match the diff. The splines and everything on the hub should be identical as long as the rear end is the same, ie r160 to 160, etc.

I think the only issue with using the Ea82T axles is that they are to short because the Legacy has a wider wheel track. If you dont wanna split the diff to exchange the outputs I think you can just use the Ea82T DOJ on the end of the Legacy axle. You could probably just use the DOJ cups but I'd keep all the CV parts together.

Leg 777 is thinking right... use old gen legacy axles 89-94' they are the same as your axles on the outer side, but the inner side mates to the stub axles out of the rx diff, watch out though, the drivers side rear axle is 3/16" shorter than the passenger. swap the internals into a old gen legacy rear diff with the appropriate ring gear and shimms. good to go!

Are you talking about the legacy axles or RX axles being different lengths?

The legacy axles are the same length, that I know for sure. The axle stubs in the legacy (and probably RX) VLSD however are not the same length.
