Hydraulic Lifter Knocking!!!

Featured Replies

So i've had this car for over 4 years now.. and ever since i've had it one of the lifters has knocked, and it's finally starting to piss me off!! i know alot of subarus do this.. but how do you go about fixing it....

I'm sure there's other threads about the exact same thing, i just couldn't find them.

you sure it's not a rocker?

i've been told that they sometimes loosen up.depending on what side,i think there pretty easy to replace.

They are not hydraulic. They are adjustable rockers on a 97

so how do i fix it?

rip open the motor, and tighten some bolts? or replace parts (boo.. $$== boo)

find out what side the noise is coming from, pull the valve cover off and check to see if anything's loose.you need to manually crank the engine over so as to run the valves through full cycle.check every 1/4 turn or so.

you'll need a feeler guage too.checking the clearence between rocker and valve.not sure of what the clearence numbers are though.

then if it is ticking then i'd see if you can find the bad lifter yourself.unless you wanna pay money to someone to pull off your valve covers.
