Door problems - '01 Legacy

Featured Replies

The interior of my driver door has been having issues. at first i thought it was just the stripping around the plastic casing, but in fact the casing is coming away from the door. PLEASE HELP. new subaru owner, i dont know much about the car.

do you mean the door panel is coming off the door?

yea. that. im 16 and this is my first car, so i'm kinda new to...well most aspects of car maintanence. i figure if i joined here then i could get some info from the long-term enthusiasts, since i am a 2-3 month enthusiast. so, can somebody help me?

Most of the fasteners around the door are just plastic expansion lugs. You can get new ones a the Subie dealer, or maybe they sell them at places like autozone.

A bigger problem could be that the fiberboard door panel where the fastener is attached had been damaged.

My Legacy has two screws at the upper foward edge of the door panel fitted with trim buttons. If the panel is damaged elsewhere, maybe you could get a couple of these form the dealer to match your interior color and install the screws.

that was going to be my response. But you need to fully remove the door panel and see whats going on, hopefully its just broken fastners. Soobys seem to have very robust door panels.. cant imagine the door panel itself falling apart, unelss it was not taken off nicely in the past.
