AndreasM
I Have A 1994 Legacy I Also Have Little $$$$$ But Lots Of Time On My Hands. I Would Like To Get The Undies Of Her And See How She Works Tinker Round With Her Bits If You Know What I Mean. She Runs But She Has No Power Even Tho I Put My Foot To The Ground And Then After About 5-7 Seconds She'll Just Take Off But Still Not The Power I Would Expect. Its A Non Turbo 2l Can Anyone Give Me A Hint On What I Should Be Looking For In Order To Fix It ? Any Info Would Be Very Much Appriciated. Do I Need To Get A New Motor Or Is It Somthing A Little Less Drastic?
TheBrian
Stick shift or automatic? During these 5-7 seconds, does it just sit there going 0kph, or is the engine slowly spinning up into its power band (3500+ RPM) as the car speeds up? Don't expect big power below 3000RPM; it's not gonna happen. If you have the requisite maths, you can measure your car's power by seeing how fast you can go up a steep hill of known grade at wide open throttle. Your car weighs about 1300kg, and it should produce 137BHP. I figure you should be able to take a 10% grade at 5500RPM and WOT at 79mph = 127kph. You'd be spending 27HP heating up the tires and gearbox and driveline lube, 47HP overcoming wind resistance at 80mph, and 63HP gaining elevation. Point being, I enjoyed Physics 101. But back to your question. Has your car always made so little power, or did it just start this behavior? Or perhaps you just moved from a more powerful car to a Subaru? If you have a lot of miles, and you suspect a loss of compression, do a leakdown test on it. Fun. Brian
jamal
Why are you capitalizing the first letter of each word? You guys do speak english is Australia, right? Get a Chiltons/Haynes manual or whatever there is for your car, and the service guide if you really want. Then read that, and search around here, on nasioc, legacycentral, and rsliberty club. You'll also want to be a little more specific when you're trying to diagnose problems with the help of a bunch of people on the internet. For example, this: She Runs But She Has No Power Even Tho I Put My Foot To The Ground And Then After About 5-7 Seconds She'll Just Take Off But Still Not The Power I Would Expect. Is pretty much incomprehensible. Maybe instead you could write something like this: Hi guys, I'm having some sort of a hesitation problem. When I put my foot down, it seems to take a little while for the motor to pick up, and when it does, it feels weak. I replaced the air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, and the engine isn't throwing any codes. What else could be causing the problem? I suspect it may be something with either the fuel pump, injectors, spark plug wires, or coil pack. Am I missing anything else? Is there some way I can check these things without just randomly replacing them to see if it helps?
Legacy777
Try and pull the codes from the ECU. See what comes up www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/engine.html
Subarunation 713
Why are you capitalizing the first letter of each word? You guys do speak english is Australia, right? QUOTE] This is out of charachter for me to talk about non post related items but I must say this is American ethnocentricity at its best or worst. Auckland is in New Zealand not Australia. I have seen far worse typing on the USMB (mine included) so the capitalization of the first letter is not really anything to get excited about. This is really a good place to get information and to share information. Jamal, your guidence on how to post to get the best out of the group is well intentioned. I would guess that 99% of us realize AndreasM's Legacy is running pretty much like crap. AndreasM, perhaps if you tell us a bit more or do some searches in the archives you may find some information that might give you answers. Legacy 777 has some great information on his website on how to read the ECU codes. There are even pictures of what to look for under the dash so you know you are checking the right thing. Good luck, Greg
