Outback strut difference (Q for Zap?)

Featured Replies

Hello All,

Just to clarify - I know using Outback struts gives an additional ~2" in tire-to-coil perch clearance, allowing the use of taller tires.

BUT,

1. Are the Outback struts physically longer overall than non-Outback/Legacy struts? How much longer?

2. If they are longer, then there would be a little or significant drive angle? .. I guess back to Q 1. - How much longer?

thanks in advance, PK

Correct, allows taller tires.

Yeah, they are about an inch and a half longer. They also have about an inch and a half more travel.

The angle of the cvs isn't affected very much at all.

Feel free to shoot me a call.

You can adjust the camber to make up for pushing everything down 3 inches or so.

The fronts have adjustments for camber too.

Excellent. Thanks Zap!

Ooohhh pretty pictures ARE worth a 1000 words (I see the bolts).

I don't care if it's blasphemy, I'm going to lift the SS.

I'll give ya a call within the next week. Have a great T-Day.

YES!!!!~! a lifted SS... I've been waiting for this :drunk:

do note that you will need to reatain 90-94 legacy strut caps in the rear, or slot the holes to accept the wider spacing on the bolts from the outback tops, the fronts don't change.

Lifted SS-YEAH!

I've done the outback strut lift on my dad's brighton, so I do know the extra length of the struts, but I was under the impression that the outback springs were longer also and gave it more lift too? I may be wrong.

Is the SS a five speed or a slush? Either way, the turbo will make up the difference.

i dont know if the springs are any longer, but they should be stiffer since the outback weighs more..... and yes the springs should give extra lift when installed.

Thanks for that info too. Plan is to use new OB struts with original springs and tops (thus allowing a slightly larger tire). Lift kit strut extensions will have to consider the 1.5", so they will be shorter to keep all geometry in line. She's a 5 speed.
