Little Help

Featured Replies

I recently replaced my factory stereo in my 95 legacy Outback with an aftermarket one, a JVC. I had to spend some time figuring out the wiring but to little avail. The stereo works, sounds good however this is where the problems begin. Can't find the memory power supply so the clock and my presets are reset every time the car is turned off. Also, and here is my real problem, somehow I have managed to get my dash illumination to work only when my headlights are off. I have found I only need two of the four extra wires originally connected to the factory beast, to get power locks, lights and illumination to work. I discovered this through trial and error and blew a couple fuses in the process. my dimmer switch seems to not be working now. Is this likely the problem? and if so how hard and expensive is it to replace such switch?

okay, first of all i hope you got the wiring adapter for your car, it plugs into the factory wiring and has writing on it, like left front +, and ground, and illum, and you get the point. you supposed to hook up the red(power) wire to what ever your JVC stereo wire is. your constant power wire, should be written on the adapter wiring, and your stereo handbook, or on the stereo itself. if you didnt get the adapter wiring thinga-ma-jig, thats what your mising. as far as only being able to adjust faceplate lighting while headlights are on, that stumps me, id have to see it to advise you on it. if you can post pics or give more info. better yet, recheck, triple check, and recheck again your wiring, one wire could mean all the difference on the world.
