no oil pressue

Featured Replies

i got a 91 loyale 4wd that i bought for 50$ not a road legal car

when i first start it it holds about 45 pounds oil pressue then it drops down to 5 pounds of oil pressue while idling, but if i push the gas down and hold it it about 2500-3000 grand it goes above 45 pounds of oil pressue is there anything i should worry about

95 legacy awd 5 speed

91 loyales tation wagon four wheel drive

Tha basic rule of thumb I was always told is you need at least 10psi per 1000RPM. If you got that it may be low but it's ok.

your oil pressure seems fine, it even states in the manual that pressure near zero is ok at idle.

A lot of these older soobs run really low at idle. As long as it picks up when you gas it, I wouldn't worry too much.

Remember that this engine will always be running at 2,000 to 4,000 rpm during average driving, which is where it has good oil pressure. It's not like big v8 gas guzzlers, which might actually be used to drive the car at not much more than idle speed.
