January 17, 200620 yr will a 97 or 98 2.2 (i have each) swap into a 99? did they remove the EGR system on the later models? a mechanic is telling me this is impossible. i did some searches but can't find specifics except on this issue.
January 17, 200620 yr Nothing's impossible. Did he give reasons for saying it was impossible. Since I'm not overly familiar with the new 2.2, my best suggestion is to check out the online subaru dealers and see if they have a parts catalogue and blow up diagrams. Look to see if there is an EGR valve. Or give them a call. Even if there isn't, you can still swap the intake manifold from the 99 onto either the 97 or 98.
January 17, 200620 yr I'd call Emily at CCRC (did I get that right?) You would think if anybody knew what fits it would be them.
January 17, 200620 yr Author said the 99 was a 2 connector engine harness and the earlier ones were 3. im' at work or i'd go look at one. forgot to mention that...... i'm sure someone knows/recalls which ones have 2 or 3 connectors? i thought they were plug and play after 1994? thanks!
January 17, 200620 yr The engine harness thing doesn't mean squat. Just swap the engine harness. It's cake. You just have to remove the intake manifold, pull the existing harness, and put your old one in.
January 17, 200620 yr Author how about leave the 99 intake manifold and bolt it to the 98 2.2? are the engine harnesses different between 98 and 99's? i can't recall how many connectors were on the 97 i pulled. thanks again!
January 19, 200620 yr Author bump anyone know the 2.2 liter differences from 98 to 99? blocks are swappable? EGR on 98 but not in 99? other than EGR it seems the blocks should swap just fine right? (minus the possible bellhousing bolt differences 4 to 8 bolt change)
January 19, 200620 yr There are so many differences in the '99 EJ22 that I'd have to see everything side by side to tell you if it would work. The '99 2.2 is a hybrid between the EJ22 and the EJ25 SOHC. Very different internally. I'd even question whether the ECU will work with the earlier model. Emily http://www.ccrengines.com
