January 26, 200620 yr Ok, here is a link to an ad showing how a Safari snorkel keeps rain out ... it's pretty neat since I was bouncing the idea around in my head as to how I would accomplish this, and it looks like that is the very same way it is done by Safari http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.4x4connection.com/images/snorkel2.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.4x4connection.com/tech/snorkeltech.htm&h=338&w=332&sz=14&tbnid=91rjQKif579YOM:&tbnh=115&tbnw=112&hl=en&start=2&prev=/images%3Fq%3D4x4%2Bsnorkel%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D
January 26, 200620 yr i dont. i fegure it is water injection, up the comp ratio. havent had any problems in the last 3 years. -=Suberdave=-
January 26, 200620 yr I just put a 90 degree bend on the end of mine, it's pointing down and has solved all my problems. When it was facing forward i had running problems even in light rain.
January 27, 200620 yr I've got to get me one of those.... anyone find a purty way to get one on an EA-81 vehicle and make it look near stock? inside and out

Would having the opening face the rear of the car, as opposed to the front, prevent water from entering the snorkel? Would removing the 'ram air' effect by reversing the opening negatively impact performance?
January 27, 200620 yr Would having the opening face the rear of the car, as opposed to the front, prevent water from entering the snorkel? Would removing the 'ram air' effect by reversing the opening negatively impact performance? Ram air is a scam, until you hit around 70 miles per hour, and if you are offroading you are probably limited to around 55-60 anyway with the tires on your car. Having it point backwards would be much better, although down is the best.
January 27, 200620 yr I'm pretty sure facing backwards would hurt performance. The low pressure vortex behind the tube would be difficult to breathe through. Try it... stick your head out the window. Try to breathe facing forward, then turn around backwards (suggest you have someone else drive). Just my $0.02.
January 27, 200620 yr Most if not all of the rally cars, when they go through the dusty sections have their snorkle pointed backwards, seems to work fine for them.
