Does it matter which way you place the air filter? Does it matter if the side with the greater diameter is up or down?

on my k-n filter there is a arrow showing which way, but on a regular one it fits in better one way

you want the the side with the rubber lip on top.. kinda forms a seal with the upper part of the airbox
