First off let me reiterate you guys are great! 2003 Outback sport 103,000 miles. My soob is not normal... It wants to die when taking off unless rpm's are ever soooo slowly applied??? If I gas it it bogs and losses power.Mechanic says diagnostics AOK? Sometimes isopropyl helps and sometimes not? I replaced plugs fuel filter anti freeze and oil recently.

does it do this when cold or all the time?

Cold. Also somedays it runs fine for an hour then it starts.

The throttle position sensor may not be reading properly. You may have to check it with a meter to see if it's steadily changing as you open the throttle.

I live in Montana so I really do not know it has been cold since it started? Also some days it will run for awhile then act up? My novice impression is it needs either more or air. It sounds muffled. I first thought water or fuel line freezeup. Isopropyl helps some. Two oil changes ago I noticed the oil filler cap barely on it was not tightened all the way by the mechanic. I will never pay for an oil change again!! Is it possible an o2 sensor or throttle problem? My wife has mentioned it backfiring also. Help

I would vote for checking the TPS, too. Unplug it and measure the resistance across the points as you have a helper slowly depress the accelerator. Anything but a steadt indicates trouble.

I would vote for A/F ratio sensor. if its not dead, its very weak at this milage.

BTW, what is diagnostics AOK?
