Hi! New here....

 

Anyway I am a proud owner of a '03 Outback. Recenlty I went on my first road trip to Southern Utah/Vegas. When I arrived in So. Utah I noticed some white splotches across the hood. Thinking it was simply just dried water spots I shurgged it off.

 

I just recently took my car to get it washed. I washed it in a high pressure hand-held sprayer type washer w/ the foaming brush to get off all the bugs and the splotches.

 

Well after it dried they were still on the hood! I took it through the wash again today and while I got most of it off, a few very tiny spots still remain. Upon close insepction it seems to have gotten through the paint and it's all crakcled and tiny chips of paint are gone. I also noticed some random scratches here and there.

I just went and bought some touch-up paint for it and just had some questions. I also should mention that I did get the clear coat Ming paint finish from the dealership.

 

1) How well does the touch-up paint blend in with the rest of the finish? Will it be very noticeable?

 

2)What are your recommendations for removing light scratches?

It is a system that allows professional touch up that is very hard to detect.

I've never heard of it before. Is it availible at places like Pep Boys, or just on the net?

grrr.. same thing happened to me in my 03 Forester.. FIRST TRIP to Wyoming... came back and it had paint missing on the hood AND on the grill.

I bought touch up paint in a little bottle from the dealer by giving them the paint code. Touch-up paint that they gave me was the perfect match in terms of color

 

I am not fond of the results of previous touch-up blobs that I had on my previous car. So I asked around and was recommended that I follow up touch-ups with Langka (a special paste) that eliminates the "blob". It worked great on rock chipped areas of the front of my car.

 

"Blob" the touch up paint in the chipped area until it blobs up and forms a raised dome. Let it dry for an hour or two and then follow up by spreading Langka on it and the blob dissappears and the touch up is flush with the surrounding paint. It works great!

I did go and buy some touch-up paint from the dealership. Now when you say blob I am wondering of the type of applicator that came with the paint.

 

Strakes, the paint that I got has an actual brush attached to the cap. Is this the same as your applicator?

 

When you say blob it makes me think that you have the type of applicator that is like a sponge that absorbes paint from the bottle and you touch the chipped part with the top of the touch-up can with a sponge to the chip. Does that make sense?

 

Also will this Touch-up+Langka work just as good with light scratches or do those need to be buffed?

Sorry I was tardy about answering and I am glad Strakes got you the info.

I took the day off work to help decorate a Christmas train for the Toys for Tots program.

We run a steam train down the Caltrain line with decorations and Xmas characters.

This year the old steamer is in bits so a Diesel will have to do the honors.

The langka will come with good directions I hear. I have a ton of chips I intend to touch up this winter so I will be ordering some myself.

I've used Langka too with great results. Its worth the $$

Yes, the applicater that I used for the paint touch up was the brush. However the "blob" I was refering to is the result of using that brush. (The one attached to the inside top of the touch up paint bottle.) You end up with a touch up that is quite irregular from the rest of the car's surface. I've never been satisfied with the results of my touch ups until I found Langka to suppliment the process. The Langka that I bought came with detailed instructions...that may answer most of the "how to" questions if i am being a little unclear.

 

The light scratches probably need to be polished/buffed.

Ok that clears it up for me. I'm only going to do the touch up if I have to. I am going to see if my paint finish is under warranty for what happend.
