the wire inside the fuse box that completely disabled my car today when it burned upin danbury, ct; which is pretty inconvenient sine i live in pennsylvania!! fairly thick wire wrapped in braided fabric with two flat connectors on it. it is the forwardmost thing in the box. i want to find one but i can't think of the name for it. thanks,

It's called a fusible link. It prevents serious damage to the car wiring. Most parts store should have one, or at least something than can be used as a temp fix.

Go to the dealer (or 1stsubaruparts.com) and get a couple then. Also, check your wiring for shorts or other problems. There is a reason that this thing went out, and you really should find that problem and correct it soon.
