August 15, 200322 yr just got my car running after pulling the engine to change the head gaskets and to the clutch. i'll post more about that once the board is moved. but for now, is there anything special to breaking in a new clutch? every car i've ever owned came with a used clutch, and i've never had to replace one (i did this one because i was in the neighborhood). any advice would be helpful... thanks!
August 16, 200322 yr i would say just take it easy for a couple hundred miles. no burnouts or full throttle starts. make sure you have the correct free play in the pedal. kinda treat it gentle so the fiber disk can break in.
August 16, 200322 yr thanks... i took it out last night, and it seems to be getting better. today i have to bleed the clutch, as it feels slightly spongy. i guess i'm just not used to a new clutch!
August 16, 200322 yr Yeah...when I got my new clutch redone I thought it was so weird...but then again they messed it up too...but i'm taking it in today or tomorrow to have it looked at.
August 16, 200322 yr bled the clutch, lots of crap came out with the old fluid. but pedal feels much better. the new pressure plate has a lighter action to it. i'm still not too sure about this new clutch. i'm getting a little woried that it will develop the cold clutch judder. after about 100 miles, it still seems to be a skip & grab when cold. it could be having the flywheel resurfaced, though. i'll give it some time...
