Help Plz: P/S Leak

Featured Replies

So my '92 Legacy L is leaking power steering fluid from the metal pressure fitting on the pump. The fluid comes out between the hard line and the nut that holds it on the pump.

I believe it is a flare type fitting on the end of the hard line leaving the pump assembly (output line).

Subaru wants $190.00 for both lines (output and return). They wont sell them sperately.

Is there any way to fix a fitting like that w/o replacing it?

I guess I'm off to the junk yard.:-\

Any other suggestions are appreciated.

Have you just tried to tighten the nut? it could be as simple as that, or as you said, the junk yard.

IIRC there is an "O" ring in there, you might check to make sure that its still good, cause if it isn't that could certainly be the cause, and even at the stealership an "O" ring can't be more than a couple of dollars.

Thanks for the quick reply!

I did try tightening it but I haven't taken it apart to look at it yet. Maybe I'll luck out and find out it's just an o-ring. I'll check right now.

Thanks, T.J.

It does have an o-ring but replacing it didn't help.

I went to the junk yard and obtained both sides of the fitting for $6.

Replacing them stopped the leak.
