October 21, 200322 yr The tranny fluid looks burnt. The manual implies that draining will only require replacing about 2 quarts but the capacity of the system is 6 quarts. Is there a technique to evacuate all the fluid for replacing with new fluid? Any recommended brand of Dexron II or is oil just oil?
October 22, 200322 yr I have a 92 Loyale with an auto trans that needed a fluid change. Since it was still shifting smoothly I didn't drop the pan and change the trans filter, instead I just did the following... * Drain the trans fluid * Pour 2 quarts of cheap trans fluid through to help rinse it out. * Added "MaxLife" transmission fluid The car still shifts amazingly smooth and the minor leak around the pan has stopped. T.J.
October 22, 200322 yr I forgot to mention to put the front end up on tall ramps. The angle will cause more fluid to drain out. T.J.
October 22, 200322 yr Author Hey Trooper, You used the 2 quarts as a rinse while the plug was out, right?, but how much did you need to add to refill the tranny. Owners manual says 2 quarts to refill. Doesn't seem like you get too much of the total 6 quarts system capacity out of the drain pan technique.
