April 13, 200619 yr I just spotted an ad for a 99 Legacy L 30th Anniversary wagon for sale at a local dealer. 78,000 miles, 2.2 engine, 5-speed, all the standard power stuff plus the 30th anniversary moonroof, leather seats, and CD player. $5900. Does this seem too good a deal? I don't have any of the details from the dealer yet, but the price seems excellent. We have 3 other Legacies L's from the 95-96 range which have been excellent cars, but I worry that Subaru's quality went downhill since. Any major different problem areas with the late 90s Legacy L? Thanks.
April 13, 200619 yr Only difference I know of is that the 2.2L became an interference design with the '97 model year. Not necessarily bad, just something to be aware of
April 13, 200619 yr the MY99 2.2 is a one-of-a-kind 2.2...I've heard it described as a hybrid between the 2.2 and 2.5. That said, this is the last year of the 2.2 and with only 78K this will run for awhile.
April 13, 200619 yr I'd say it's a good deal if all the extras are functioning correctly. Have them change the timing belt for you or prove it was at 60k if you think you're going to buy it. I'd like to find a deal like that myself.
April 13, 200619 yr Author Thanks for the responses guys. Just heard back from the dealer that the car had already sold. He says it was immaculate. It was a good price. The 2.2 engine has always performed very well for us before, so that's why I was really interested in this car. It's too bad Subaru has gone to all 2.5's and doesn't even offer the 2.2 as the base engine. I'd rather keep my (relatively) good fuel economy and reliability.
