May 29, 200619 yr '87 GL, SPFI. I've removed the bolt that keeps it from twisting, I've pulled the rotor off, and... I can't get it out of the engine. It was stuck pretty solidly, so I used a strap wrench to turn it (and broke one of the little spring clip things... are those easy to find?), and it'll turn to the ends of it's adjustment area, but I still can't get it out of the engine. I need to pull it so I can replace it so I can get the car running again. Suggestions? Other than "Pull the engine, take it apart, hit it from underneath"? -=Russ=-
May 29, 200619 yr You pulled BOTH of the adjustment bolts right? The EA82 has two mounting tabs. Get a good shop light or flashlight and take a look down there. You'll see it. Both are (should) be 10mm. GD

May 29, 200619 yr Author Now, compatability questions: I don't know my EA82s as well as I know my RX-7s, so... This is what I have: 22100AA053 D4P84-03 6802 This is what someone is offering me: 22100AA440 D4P86-03 B 1404 Are the compatible enough to work? -=Russ=-
May 29, 200619 yr if they're both out of an SPFI engine, they *should* work. You may have to swap the connectors on them as well. Just unscrew the cover from the disty (two screws on the bottom), then pop the harness out to switch them.
May 29, 200619 yr As long as it came from another fuel injected EA82 it will work. SPFI, MPFI, even turbo all use the same crank angle sensor distributor. It's really a very simple device inside. Nothing like the carb units. Timing is really controlled by the ECU. You might have to change the plug on the end depending on what year it came from, but it *will* work little effort. GD
May 29, 200619 yr I thought some had a vacuum advance unit, and some did not. I'm pretty sure the diaphragm thingy on my Turbo's dizzy with a vacuum line to it is a vac advance... seems to me 87+ don't have a vacuum advance, and instead are controlled by the computer?

That's true, but the crank angle sensor should be the same. Should still work. GD
