Anyways, yes, you can put a 2.5 engine in your EA81. Search this retrofitting forum for EJ swaps. Most people are doing them with an EJ22 (2.2 liter) instead of the EJ25, but it should be pretty much the same. Only problem would be if you're using an EJ25 with DOHC, I doubt it would fit.

 

Yes, you can mate it up to your current transmission with an adapter plate, and redrilling your EA81 flywheel. I don't know how well a stock EA81 transmission would hold up to the power of the EJ25. Only one way to find out I guess.

i dont think the EA81 tranny would last very long behind a motor putting out 165 ft. lbs of torque. im surprised the EA82 D/R i got behind my EJ22 has lasted for 17k miles with the kind of abuse i put it through. the EJ22 seems to be the perfect motor if you want more power, and EJ18 has better mileage and a higher redline, but the EJ22 has the low-end nuts to get you out of ruts and over things on the trail. if i were you i would swap in a EA82 5 speed D/R tranny and the EJ22.

josh, im looking for torque not realy top end. at 1200 rpms my motor now dynoed 150 ft. lbs torque. i need strong low end. my brat only weight 1200 lbs maybe thats why the trans holds up.

the only size diference in the ej25 and the EJ22 in how tall it is, it has about the same dimentions of the ej18 ecept for the 2.5 dohc has bigger heads
