Scary sound from my RX pt. 2

Featured Replies

well, the disty knock comes and goes,

but there is this other noise...

its not the throwout bearing, because when i push the clutch in theres no change, im sure some of you remember this really faint "knocking" noise i was talking about... well, you can hear it in the car, but not under the hood, so after fiddling around with a plastic bottle as a stethiscope, it seemed to be coming from the pass side of the motor, near the turbo.. the turbos good, nice and tight, but i was thinking.. since i cant hear it under the hood, only in the car, and its VERY faint.. could the cat converter be kocking around on the inside? just a question.. someone else has to of had this problem. using my ghette stethescope, it seems to be heard the best on the downpipe, but i cant be sure, because knocks and pings resonate well through that aluminum block.

on the downpipe after it comes off hte turbo, there is 14mm bolt that holds it to the side of the transmission. check to see if it is there. there is another bolt that holds the rear of the downpipe, right before the flange, to a bracket that comes off the back of the transmission

well, theres a part 2 to my ea81 hatch too..

you could only hear mine real well from the inside as well, but not very much if any under the hood..

turns out it was a rod knock.. damn thing almost threw a rod last night on the way home.. to me it sounds like you have the same symptoms as i had.. so if my motor had a rod knockin, your might too...

i'm swappin a motor this weekend :madder:

ohh when i drained the oil outa mine, i shined a flash light on it as i was pourin it into a jug, and could see metal shavings in it.. oil was only 500 miles old.. might wanna check yours like that.. was one sign to me that it was an acctual rod knock..
