MAJOR hesitation problem!

Featured Replies

My 96 Legacy MT has a big hesitation problem. This morning while driving 2 kids and a load of Halloween decorations to school I uttered some choice swear words and warped their tender 5th grade minds.... (oops) Had to kind of "floor it" to cross a street uphill on a nasty curve (didn't see the other car coming until I was part way out and into the curve). My sub barely moved, and sounded like it was going to stall in the middle of the intersection. This has happened a couple times before, but I just figured I was an idiot and was doing something wrong on the pedals.

So, what is going on? I've been driving MTs for 20 years, and never had this happen with my other cars. Could it be a clogged fuel injector? My coolant is a lovely lead color, is that related somehow? (it goes to the mechanic next week) Am I just driving wrong?

Any ideas that I could present to the mechanic when I get my coolant changed?

Thanks.

I had that problem once, still do whenever it rains however I think thats another situation....anyways I used a bottle of fuel injector cleaner, as well as some fuel additive to get rid of any water that may be in there, it seemed to clear the problem right up!

Hah! You talk about it like it's something new

I have chased that problem for years in my Legacy, and the XT is pulling a similar stunt....:banghead:

Had the exact same problem in my 95 wagon. Problem was solved by replacing the air flow meter. Any Legacy AFM from 90 to 99, except the turbo model, will interchange. I got lucky and found a used one for $10.

Easy there John. The MT Legacy EJ22's used a silver looking MAF sensor, while the AT ones used a black looking sensor... The difference is clear when you compare the two... I believe all turbo Legacies use the black sensor also...

Your probably right. I never crosschecked the manual version. I should know better than to use words like "all' and "always". Always seem to be exceptions to everything.
