November 3, 200322 yr Hi - After ten years, I once again own a Subaru!!! I have also found the joys of satellite radio. In my old car I could just use the deck adaptor. This new car came standard with a CD (single) player. I'm wondering if anyone could help me with information on accessing the radio and power to hook-up an FM modulator. Tried to do a search, but I'm afraid my question is a bit too simplistic for most of you guys. Thanks for not laughing too hard, KT
November 4, 200322 yr My son had xm radio put in his truck at Best Buy, labor was not that high, you might check with them.
November 5, 200322 yr I know that XM offers its own XM modulator kit for the Delphi skifi, is the unit you have an add on? or a complete head unit?
November 7, 200322 yr Author Called Best Buy and they quoted me over $100 to install!!! It is the Delphi model that replaces the need for a cassette deck and cigarette plug. I think if I knew how to get into the compartment I might be able to figure it out. Just need to know how to safely get into the compartment and where to tap into some power. Thanks, KT
January 12, 200422 yr There are 2 options for getting your XM radio signal to your factory FM radio in the dash. One is using the wired FM modulator. This requires you get under the dash and put the modulator between the car antenna and your FM radio. You also have to provide power to the modulator. An easier method is to use Delphi's wireless FM modulator. It simply plugs into your cigarette lighter jack and a little box on the end of the lighter plug contains the FM transmitter which sends the signal to your factory FM radio. The only down-side is that the audio quality with the wireless modulator isn't quite as good as the wired version. But it's alot simpler.
