This is an aftermarket tach. (see pic) Would this have been a vent before the tach was installed? Strange-there isn't another hole like this on the passenger side.

 

Would a tachometer like this have been added at the dealer?

Andrew's wagon has the same tach,or at least one much like it and in the same spot.

 

I have yet to come across a picture in my FPM's that shows a '73 wagon dash looking like yours and Andrew's.I'll keep looking.

Negative on that, there's supposed to be a hole in the dash for change or what have you. It's just a little cubbyhole on all '73s except the coupes, which came from the factory with a tach there in '72-'74, and models with the dealer-installed tach. It's not "aftermarket"-the dealer put it there. If I were you I'd leave it.
