big engine swap question

Featured Replies

ok lets say i need a motor for this 99, i have heard that the pre 97 motors are better built

soooooo would it be possible to buy a 95 2.2 from ccr and have that put in my 99? do they match up /hook up, etc?

Yes, the engines pre 1997 are not interference (timing belt snaps and nothing bad happens). However, you'll want to stick with 95 and newer so you don't have to swap OBD systems (95 and newer have OBDII).

95 is the one you want. I believe 96 and newer are interference engines. Rick at CCR will be able to confirm this for you.

what is obd and what does it do?

has anyone put the older 2.2 in a newer legacy?

obd is the computer it stands for on board diagnostics the 96 is non interference the interference starts at 97 year model even through they were manufactered in late 96.

'95 and '96 are non-interference, OBDII (what you want.) '97 and newer are interference, meaning that the pistions will interfere with the valves if timing belt breakage occurs. Makes me cringe just thinking about it.

Is the computer hook-up just plug and play? The '99 computer will run the '95 or '96? Seems like it is by the other replies, but I really have no clue.
